3 Kashi Visit Itineraries

5.2     Quick Tip Itineraries

Our friend, an ardent dedicated devotee at Ramakrishna Mission Benaras, Mr. S. Das, enthusiastically took us on the following tour. This proved to be time-wise optimal and darshan-wise best. The following should take about half a day each. Of course, it depends on individual inclination of how much time one wants to spend at each of these places.

5.2.1         Itinerary A

A.1 Tilbhandeshwar (have darshan and offer puja at the main shrine. If one has more time, all the other associated deities incorporated within the temple complex maybe visited.  This second part is optional. Here one is allowed to take pictures.

A.2 Gouri-Kedareshwar Shiva

A.3 Boat ride from Kedar Ghat to Panchganga ghat.

A.4 Bindu Madhav

A.5 Trailanga Swami Ashram

A.6 Kaal Bhairav

This itinerary includes Manikarnika Darshan, Harishchandra Ghat Darshan, Meera Bai Ghat, Ahilyabai Ghat, Barhi Ghat (which belonged to the (Chandala, an outcast who is responsible for cremation of dead bodies) Master who bought Raja Harishchandra. All these ghats are visible from boat ride.

5.2.2         Itinerary B

B.1 Durga Bari

B2. Tulsi Manas Mandir

B3. Sankatmochan

B4. BHU (Benaras Hindu University) Shiva Temple and Campus

B.1 – B.3 three can take a good half day. If required, BHU maybe done in the afternoon.

5.2.3         Itinerary C

C.1 Sarnath

This will require atleast half a day. One has to take an Auto. Toto (Battery rickshaw) does not travel that far.  One can walk among the ruins and marvel the architecture. There is a museum.

C.2 Aarati at Baba Vishwanath

After afternoon rest, one can go to ghats or go straight to Baba Vishwanath’s mandir to have “sparsh” (touch) darshan. Here devotees are allowed to touch the shivalinga and offer their prayers.

Every Shiva temple will have the figurine of a bull facing the shivalinga. This divine old bull, Nandi is Lord Shiva’s trusted Vaahan. He is patiently waiting forever facing His lord; ready to carry out any order that he may receive. There is a sweet practice in Kashi. The devotees whisper their urgent need, prayer or desires into the ears of Nandi knowing fully well, the faithful Nandi will appraise His Lord at due time for sure. Nandi never fails anyone.!

C.3 Aarati at Ma Annapurna
